Frequently Asked Questions
Getting started
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
People come to therapy for many reasons. You do not need to be in crisis or have everything figured out to reflect, understand patterns, work through concerns, or explore new strategies.
What happens during the free 15-minute consultation?
It is a brief chance to share what brings you to therapy, ask initial questions, and consider whether working together feels like a fit. It is not a therapy session.
What happens in the first session?
We begin getting to know one another, talk about what brings you in and what you hope for, and review consent and confidentiality. You do not need to share everything right away.
What if I feel nervous?
Starting can feel uncertain. We can take time to talk about what would help you feel more comfortable and move at a pace that works for you.
Therapy & approach
What kinds of concerns do you work with?
Therapy may explore anxiety, mood, relationships, emotional regulation, identity, self-esteem, past experiences, life transitions, and interpersonal patterns. Learn more on the Therapy page.
How often will we meet, and for how long?
Frequency and duration vary. Many people begin weekly or biweekly, while goals, circumstances, preferences, and progress help shape the pace. We can revisit what feels helpful together.
Virtual sessions
Are sessions virtual?
Yes. Sessions are offered virtually to clients located in Ontario.
How does online therapy work?
Sessions take place through our Jane platform. Join from a private location using a compatible device and stable internet.
Is virtual therapy effective?
Many people find virtual therapy convenient and helpful, though experiences and needs vary.
Scheduling & policies
How often will we meet?
Frequency varies. Many clients begin weekly or biweekly, but we can discuss what fits your needs, goals, availability, and circumstances.
What if I need to reschedule or cancel?
We ask that you provide 24-hours notice. However, we understand life happens!
Fees & insurance
How much does a session cost?
The current listed fee is $160 per hour. A sliding scale is offered depending on availability and circumstance.
Is psychotherapy covered by insurance?
Psychotherapy and counselling is often covered by insurance. Ask your provider whether psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) is covered, along with annual limits, per-session maximums, referral requirements, and virtual-session coverage.
Do you direct bill or provide receipts? What payment methods do you accept?
Credit card (via Jane) and e-tansfer is accepted.
Privacy, fit & safety
Is therapy confidential?
Information shared in therapy is generally confidential, with legal and professional exceptions. Confidentiality and its limits are reviewed during informed consent.
What if we are not a good fit, or I want to change direction?
Fit matters. You are welcome to raise concerns, ask for a different approach, or choose to end therapy. Even if we do not work together we will support you in finding the right therapist.
What if I am in crisis?
Made For You Therapy is not an emergency or crisis service. If you are in immediate danger or concerned about your immediate safety, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. In Canada, call or text 988 for suicide crisis support.
